The AutoCalculate feature can display sums, averages, maximums, etc. without the necessity for creating a formula or inserting the answer into your worksheet.

  1. Select the cells you wish to include in the calculation.

  2. An answer appears in the AutoCalculate field (at right side of Status Bar), e.g.  Sum=300

The Status bar is the horizontal area at the bottom of the Excel window.

If you wish to change the calculation to another function, such as Average, Count, Count Nums, Max, Min, or Count, click the right mouse button on the AutoCalculate field then select the desired operator.
