Start a New Presentation

When you start PowerPoint, you begin with a blank presentation - no formatting, no backgrounds, zip. Most users find it convenient to start with a presentation template.

  1. Click on the Microsoft Office button (top left corner of your PowerPoint window).

  2. Choose New. Notice the list of Templates and options in the left pane:

  3. Select an category from the left pane, i.e. Blank and recent, Installed Templates, etc. A list of choices are displayed in the right pane from which you can select. For more information on selecting and using Presentation Templates, please refer to that article. You can also create your own templates if you have a flair for colors and formatting and a bit of time.
  4. You must have Internet connection and be running a genuine copy of MS PowerPoint in order to download templates available under Microsoft Office Online.

  5. Once you have selected a template you can now begin customizing the outline and editing slide content. You'll also want to now how to change views and features available within each.
